#TravellrStories: Caroline & Jamie Explores The Offbeat On Their Fairytale-Like Adventure
When procrastination struck as it usually does when one is busy studying for exams, Travellr Caroline chanced upon Anywhr and what we do on YouTube.
Knowing that she and her roommate Jamie wanted a vacation right after their finals, they made the unanimous decision to book one with us! Caroline pointed out how much time leaving the trip planning to us took off their hands - from not having to figure out places to visit, researching on the city’s must-dos, and even picking a destination, for that matter.

“It’s like we did that thing people say about throwing a dart on a map and travelling wherever it lands. But this time, we let someone throw the dart for us!” Jamie exclaimed as we sat down for a chat with them a few weeks post-trip while they were both back home in the U.S. Caroline and Jamie both hail from the land of liberty, but these 19-year-olds met each other while studying abroad in Ireland. Talk about being true wanderers at heart.
The lovely duo also couldn’t stop gushing over how novel the idea of Anywhr was to them. They gave us an account of how the thrill started right from their taxi ride to the airport – they had an overly-enthusiastic driver who was just as excited as them about the mystery that surrounded where they were catching a flight to.
Landing in Destination X, our Travellrs were blessed to have adored the host in their homestay (who was an artist and food historian), recounting with us the snippets of conversations they had via Jamie’s basic knowledge in the local language.
Even meeting another traveller in their homestay became a particularly unforgettable moment for our pair. They hit it off immediately and spent the day with their new Tanzanian friend, who was in Destination X to meet up with her daughter who studies in the city’s university. From getting a cup of coffee to exploring aqueducts in the city, Caroline and Jamie were definitely fortunate to have a new friend who also knew all the local insider tips and tricks thanks to her daughter.
Jamie shared that their friend brought them to a part of the aqueduct they would have never seen otherwise. Besides, they’re still in touch and now have a place to stay in Tanzania. Score!
LIVING A FAIRYTALE
One of the Missions we set out for the duo in their Travelogue was to find the highest point in the city, and this just so happened to be in a castle! They even stayed past closing hours, from being too mesmerized by the view at the top.
“It closed at 7.30 and we only left at 8.30, we stayed way too long by accident,” Jamie sheepishly confessed. But we can see they had zero regrets!
The gleam and sparkle in their eyes were crystal clear as they reminisced about that simply magical experience - gazing at mountains and the view of the whole city on the top of an actual castle. What a truly Disney princess-esque moment for the two.
MANY STROKES OF LUCK
In the other city we sent them to, Caroline and Jamie chanced upon a puppet show close to a historical monument they were checking out. Like what most curious travellers would do, they sat down and joined the crowd of kids – although they couldn’t really make out what was going on amongst the flurry of puppet animals and circus decorations.
It was a good thing Jamie had basic knowledge of the local language that helped. Her skills came in handy in other sticky situations too. Although our Travellrs have checked off a number of countries under their travel belt, things still mess up sometimes. Being from the U.S., Caroline and Jamie needed to print out their flight tickets and get it stamped for their plane ride home to dodge a fine. Failing to do so and worried about the impending fine, they searched high and low for printing stores in Destination X.
It was through the sheer luck of Jamie having limited knowledge in the local language that they managed to get what they needed to continue making headway on their journey with their worries resolved.

Between Jamie’s command of the local language and Caroline’s excellent navigation skills, the girls leaned on each other’s strengths to ensure their trip was rid of any big blunders.
RETHINKING TYPICAL WAYS OF TRAVELLING
“We went into these cities blindly, with no research done, but we learnt so much along the way and it was a magical adventure.”
By way of traversing the two less-travelled cities the Anywhr Team chose for them, Jamie concluded that smaller cities have just as much to offer as more touristy locations.
Our teenage Travellrs seem to be the perfect travel mates for each other. Previously having explored Portugal and Romania together, these girls are unstoppable. First Europe... then the world! And it looks like another journey with Anywhr is not off the cards for them, as Caroline exuberantly professed that she would definitely travel with us again!
